Welcome to openSpace

Sharing is good
openSpace is University College Falmouth's platform for making teaching materials free to learners all over the world through Creative Commons.
As far as possible, we have developed openSpace to reflect our approaches to teaching on our full time and part time courses. This is your space to explore, experiment, develop and grow...a place where your learning and your knowledge is shaped through your interactions, peer feedback and collaboration with others interested in the same subject. It's about you participating in an active community of learners. The journey is as important as the destination.
We are building openSpace one course at a time, starting with teaching materials from our MA Professional Writing distance learning course. Our 'Taster Sessions' act as mini courses to introduce you to a subject. Our Screenwriting Unit is a full unit of study which represents a substantial part of the MA Professional Writing degree.
Open Education is still a new phenomenon. Just like education is a lifelong practice, we will be learning new things through openSpace all the time. Things like how students like you control their own learning. Or how we can encourage and support your learning process in a safe and engaging environment. And we’re constantly improving how we build active communities of learners at all levels of higher education.

Who can benefit from openSpace? Anyone. Thinking about higher education in general? Thinking of a specific course and want to 'try before you buy'? Wanting to improve your skills as part of your career development? Have a general interest in a particular subject? Or perhaps you're an academic seeking additional learning materials? openSpace is the place for you. See our courses page for the courses we offer.

Learn at your own pace - flexibility is the key.
This version of openSpace is a pilot...one made possible through a grant from The Higher Education Academy/JISC Open Educational Resources Programme. Sharing our aim to open access to specialist Art, Design, Media and Performance education, the Open Educational Resources Programme provided the initial finances required to set up the openSpace website.
